Abstract: Modern virtue ethics has been limited by its Neo-Aristotelian beginnings. We can develop a better model following Socrates, for a virtue ethics that is less vulnerable to criticism and more practical for our lives. After a brief critique of Aristotle I will turn to my positive proposal. I work from three Socratic starting points: the role of care of the soul, the value of avoiding moral injury, and the bedrock of human wisdom: recognizing your ignorance.
